Wellpoint Dewatering
What is wellpoint dewatering?
Wellpoints are cost effective to install, quickly and easily, in most ground conditions. It is the most versatile and common method of groundwater control, adapting easily to various types of ground e.g. clays, sands, silts, gravels, moderately permeable soils, and layouts. When you are looking to create a dry and stable working environment. Often used in excavations, trenches, foundations and structures if you need to construct below groundwater level.
Wellpoint dewatering works by installing well points (small vertical riser pipes generally 38mm to 50mm in diameter, with slotted filter screens at the base), into the ground at tight intervals (typically 1m to 2m apart). Installing with either a jetting pump, using water (a high-pressure water pump used during the installation phase to blast or wash wellpoint riser pipes into the ground). Or an augur (a drilling device or boring tool with a rotating helical – corkscrew shaped – blade or shaft) with a hollow stem. Either to drill holes for dewatering well installation or to transport, compress and separate water from wet sludge, slurry, and excavated solids.
The water wellpoints are then attached to a header pipe via flexible pipes with taps to allow the flow to be adjusted. The flexible pipes are attached to Alba Dewatering’s modern fleet of super silent pumps which send the water out through a settlement tank, to be discharged into a suitable watercourse or to a suitable location.
